THE DC SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY ACADEMY ADVANTAGE

Shoot Spectacular Moments

With DC Sports Photography Academy, you learn how to capture those active and restive moments at any sport of your choice. Whether it is a fast-paced action-packed sporting event or your child’s little league game, you will learn the skills and techniques necessary for making those fantastic shots.

Master Sports Photography

You are nothing without the right tools and the best ways to use them. Learn about the right lens, camera settings, exposure. Become a pro at using light and backgrounds in an active setting. Improve your skills and reaction time to get the best shots at the right time. Learn the business of photography.

Engage in Hands-on Learning

You can never learn the true art of sports photography from online-only resources or in a classroom setting. You need practical hands-on experience, in the heat of the moment with an instructor by your side. How else will you learn how to react, the best angles, the right use of lighting? With a hands-on approach, you learn the art of timing, anticipating the shots, the athletes and their actions for more engaging professional sports photos.

Individualized Approach

DC Sports Photography Academy packages are tailored to each skill level and requirements for:

  • Parents wanting to capture their kids sporting activities
  • Amateurs who want to go pro
  • Professionals who want to branch out into sports photography and build a strong portfolio

Introducing the best way to learn sports photography

I’m Rafael Suanes and I know that finding a good professional sports photography teacher in Washington, DC is hard. That’s why DC Sports Photography Academy was created; to help amateurs and professionals alike learn how to be amazing sports photographers.

I know from my own experiences that a classroom setting or online courses cannot give you the skills and experiences you need to become a great sports photographer.

It is necessary to have a hands-on approach, an opportunity to learn under pressure, and in the setting that you want to work. That’s why DC Sports Photography Academy embraces a fully one-on-one approach to learning that incorporates ‘teaching on the job’ to make you a better sports photographer.

Learn Sports Photography from a Pro

I have been a freelance sports photographer for more than 20 years. I have worked with every major professional team in the Washington, DC area, which means that I don’t cover just one sport.

Currently, I am the staff photographer for both Georgetown University and George Mason University, handling all their athletic photographic needs. I also frequently cover professional sports for a variety of national news agencies. My images are published all over the world on a frequent basis with numerous images consistently being named among the best photos of the year by USA Today Sports Images.

With my background, passion for teaching, and access to high-intensity games, you will get the training and experience you need to improve your sports photography skills or build a well-rounded portfolio to expand your career.
